  Another rant about drivers

Author: JTEM
Date: May 14, 2010 02:25

So I'm heading down the street the other day, and there on
the right is an open parking space. In front of that was
another open parking space. In front of that was a car
legally parked, and next to it was some douche in a PT
Cruiser, double parked (of course), her window open &
an empty water bottle and pack of cigarettes on the
street directly next to her door. Since then I've seen
two drivers sort of manage the parallel parking thing,
parking square in the middle of two spaces.

Now I understand that parallel parking is an issue for some
people, but there's two problems here:

#1. If on your driving test you're asked to parallel park,
and can't, you don't get your license.

#2. THEY DIDN'T HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT! There were
two open spaces in a row! No backing up if she couldn't
handle it, she could have simply pulled in!

Speaking of which......I heard once that (this may be an urban legend)
employers are increasingly desperate for employees who are actually
willing to deal with clients face-to-face or even on the phone, since
so many young people are used to spending more virtual time with their
friends than face-to-face time. Many CAN'T handle talking on the phone
- especially not with strangers. Seems to me face-to-face time is
something that needs practicing every day. Having a phone in the
bedroom doesn't encourage that. At the least, kids could be told that
if they want a cell phone or their own landline, THEY will have to pay
every penny for that. It would stop a lot of money fights.

Well put, and more succint than my own post.

Yes. Just this morning I had several nice conversations at the coffee
shop. I've had several conversations at work. Tonight I plan to have
conversations when stop by a local watering hole for a drink.

What did you do in the "good old days" if your conversation was
interrupted by someone else walking up, some loud noise, or commotion
nearby, or simply a wandering mind on the part of your partner in
conversation? Did you really stand there 30 minutes waiting for your
chance to speak again?

It's not "taking the hint", it's simply dealing with rudeness in a quick and
effective way without being rude oneself.

If you think taking a cell phone call and extending the yammer is a decent way
to give a hint, I disagree - it's a rather cowardly and rude way to disengage
from a conversation.

The funniest thing is that Obama uses a very very common expression in talking
about McCain dressing up the same old shit, and suddenly Palin takes it
personaly.

There's a line in the original Dune book that seems to fit:
"My son displays a general garment and you claim it's cut to your fit?"

That Palin took it personally indicates that she really thinks of herself as
a pig in lipstick.
