My 1968 Camaro is celebrating its 40th birthday this 3rd of July.
Happy birthday to Bruce Kapler, too. What would "Christmas (Baby,
Please Come Home)" be without him (and Darlene)?

Unsinkable Terri Garr acts despite her ailments
By Susan King
July 3, 2008
HOLLYWOOD - When rumors started circulating in the late 1990s that she
had multiple sclerosis, actress Teri Garr discovered a lot of Hollywood
was afraid to even meet with her about potential acting gigs.
Although she managed to keep working, interviews went from rare to
nonexistent for the popular comedic actress who was Oscar-nominated for
Tootsie.
"When you hear the word 'disabled,' people immediately think about
people who can't walk or talk or do everything that people take for
granted," Garr said in a recent interview. "Now, I take nothing for
granted. But I find the real disability is people who can't find joy in
life and are bitter."

A Discussion With Author Bill Scheft
NEWSWEEK
Jul 8, 2002 Issue
Bill Scheft has written monologues for "Late Show With David
Letterman" for more than a decade. His debut novel, "The Ringer,"
about a "professional" softball player, comes out this week from
HarperCollins. He talked to Asher Hawkins.
Talk about your background before "Late Show."
I graduated from Harvard with a degree in Latin. I thought the church
was coming back. I was a standup comic for 12 years; I did every TV
show except the ones that help your career. In 1991, I was lucky
enough to get hired by [Letterman].
Did you write a book before this one?
I wrote a novel, and everyone who read it had one little criticism:
"How about a plot?" I always found that "plot" comment a tad nitpicky.
By the way, Tad Nitpicky was my sophomore proctor at Deerfield.

Doctor: Birth of Jolie twins may be weeks away
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080702/ap_en_ot/people_jolie_23
By COLLEEN BARRY, Associated Press Writer
27 minutes ago
NICE, France - Angelina Jolie's doctor says her twins may take a few
more weeks to arrive.
Dr. Michel Sussmann spoke at a brief news conference Wednesday in Nice,
where Jolie is hospitalized. Asked when the 33-year-old actress is
expected to have her twins, he replied: "I can't give you a date. Let's
say the birth will happen in the weeks to come."
Sussmann stressed that Jolie checked into the hospital to be kept under
observation, not because of any medical emergency.
"Mrs. Angelina Jolie and her husband, Mr. Brad Pitt, told me to tell you
that she is doing absolutely fine," said the doctor, apparently unaware
that the actors aren't married.
"Her hospitalization at this stage in her pregnancy is totally normal
for a patient who had a Caesarean (section) during her first
pregnancy," he said.

Boy George calls off North American tour
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080701/people_nm/george_dc_1
By Alex Dobuzinskis
Tue Jul 1, 7:03 PM ET
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - British singer Boy George has canceled his North
American tour after U.S. authorities refused to issue him a visa because
of legal trouble overseas, he said in a posting on his Web site on
Tuesday.
The 47-year-old former Culture Club frontman was scheduled for a 30-date
tour, starting with an Aspen, Colorado, show on July 10 and ending in
Dallas, Texas, on August 23. The tour was also to take him to New York,
Los Angeles and Chicago.
George, whose real name is George O'Dowd, was arrested last year and
accused of falsely imprisoning a male escort from Norway. The 1980s pop
star pleaded not guilty in February, but U.S. authorities denied his
visa because of the case.
George had hoped the decision could be reversed, he said.

Pause after Screen Actors Guild contract expires
By RYAN NAKASHIMA, AP Business Writer Tue Jul 1, 11:03 AM ET
LOS ANGELES - The contract between movie and TV actors and major
Hollywood studios expired early Tuesday after the studios made a final
offer and the Screen Actors Guild said it would take more than a day to
study it.
The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers said the offer
was worth more than $250 million in additional compensation to members
of the guild over the three years of the proposed contract.
The current pact expired at 12:01 a.m. PDT, but both sides said they
would continue to work under the old contract after the deadline passed.
"In short, our final offer to SAG represents a final hope for avoiding
further work stoppages and getting everyone back to work," the alliance
said in a statement. The alliance said film production had been
"virtually shut down" because of uncertainty about a deal.
The AMPTP will meet with guild representatives Wednesday afternoon to
explain the offer, but will not entertain counterproposals, spokesman
Jesse Hiestand said.
