Until recently, I knew little about homeopathic medicine, but what
little I did know led me to be rather skeptical. I have been given
reason to discard that skepticism.
I have an older sister (only sibling) who is 61. She has had a
connective tissue problem for decades that causes pain and weakness in
her joints. It has gotten worse over time, and several years ago she
gave up her career as a hospital floor nurse for a less stressful job
at a clinic. About a year ago, even this proved too much, and she quit
work, apparently for the rest of her life.
Traditional medicine was the next best thing to useless. Doctors ran
every test you could possibly imagine, along with some you probably
could not. Nothing showed up. She was even evaluated by a psychologist
for the possibility that it might be psychosomatic. All the doctors
could do was load her up with painkillers to partially mask the
symptoms, and I think the emphasis was on partially. At one time she
told me that she knew she was destroying her liver with medication,
but she didn't see any other option.

I was on the road for 5 days (new job). So I come home, fire up
Agent, and download afh, to find 82 new headers. Good grief, there
was a time when we could expect that many or more each day!
Oh well, I guess all good things come to an end.

A buddy of mine, a disabled Vet just had his truck towed. His
disability pay was cut due to a paperwork screwup, and he wasn't able
to keep up the tags & insurance.
I know that no one here owes me a thing, but I'm still going to ask:
If anyone here can help him out, drop me a line at

Nykyään panikointi ydinvoimaa vastaan on niin suurta, että suorastaan
hämmästyttää!?Tulee eittämättä mieleen taannoinen keskustelu, jossa
kyseltiin mm. Heiniluomalta ja Kataiselta mielipiteitään siitä mitä mieltä
ovat ydinvoiman "lähelleenrakentamisesta?" Vastaus tulee kuin tykin suusta
kuorossa: "sulaa HULLUUTTA!.".. ..Öö just joo ja nyt tätä samaa kiteytetään
lehdet mustina vakuuttamalla, ettei kukaan selväjärkinen siedä ydinvoimaa
enää edes 100km säteelleen itsestään, vaan nyt pitää saada välimatkaa
satoja, jollei jo tuhansia kilometrejä!!
Aika hurjaa muutosta muuten. Kun luvin miten vielä esim 80-luvulla esim.
Ruotsissa haluttiin aivan yleisesti jopa Tukholmaan ydinvoimaa! Siis ihan
simppeli kysymys. Mikä on maassamme herättänyt tämän massiivisen ja
maankattavan kammon ydinvoimaan. Vastavaa en ole IKINÄ nähnyt! Miksi
ihmeessä lehdet pursuavat tätä samaa viestiä:" Mitä kauemmas sen
vähäkalmaisempaa mulle ydinvoimaa?!"
Toki Antti vahtera 1978 kirjoittamassa kirjassaan kertoi muutoksen johtuneen
ruotsalaisten Ågastan voimalan vuotokatastrofiin kaatumisista ja myös esim
Marvikenin ydinvoimalakatastrofin jo 1970-luvulla...

I was reading a biography of Frank Zappa by Barry Miles and in the chapter
titled "New York City",
there is mention that Zappa's bookshelf included "Stranger In a Strange
Land", from which he
borrowed the word 'discorporate' for his "Absolutely Free" album.
I don't know if that's been mentioned in the newsgroup before, so I figured
I'd mention it.

Perhaps some here will find some interest in a current
thread (I find interesting) going on in two newsgroups:
soc.history.what-if, rec.arts.sf.science
The title is:
Aliens in Saturn system, 1979

Lot's of smoking in Star Beast.
When I was a lad in the 1950s there was lots of smoking; however we
children were all told it was bad for us, and not to smoke. So I'm
somewhat surprised at the amount of smoking in SB. I notice occasional
smoking in the other juveniles (BP comes to mind) but nothing like the
quantity in SB. How did RAH get the smoking past the Alice censor?
Also I'm forced to assume RAH was a committed smoker - I feel depressed
that my "hero" was addicted to one of the most insidious and harmful
drugs, although thinking about the times, I shouldn't be surprised.
P.S. Does everyone discover something new upon each reread of the
juvies? I hadn't noticed the smoking before.
