While I was driving to work this morning, the song by Tom Jones "It's
not unusual" came on. My first thought was Carlton from The Fresh
Prince of Belair doing that funky dance to that song. The second thing
that popped in my head was that my mother went gaga over Tom Jones
when she was a teenager.
I started to think of other songs that make me think of something
else. Night at the Roxbury- Baby don't Hurt Me- while the two stars of
the movie move their head in unison. The humming song makes me think
of Dumb and Dumber. There's so many. I think if I heard "I'll Be There
For You" on the radio, it would actually tick me off because it's the
Friends anthem.
How about you?

"Rock Around The Clock" makes me think of the TV show "Happy Days",
since they used that for the first season or so until they switched to
the "Happy Days Theme".
The "William Tell Overture" reminds me of the Lone Ranger for some
reason.
I assume you're not interested in songs that were originally TV theme
songs to begin with. There were some really good ones back in the 1950s,
such as "Gunsmoke", "Maverick", "Have Gun, Will Travel", and "Dick Van
Dyke (aka Penis Van Lesbian).

Department of coincidences: Just as I read that line, the last
movement of the William Tell Overture was being played as background
music on the radio.

Wow...and as I read you post, I heard the theme from "Twilight Zone"
in my head.
Coincidence? I think not.

Bill Haley and His Comets: "Rock Around The Clock" - "The Six Five Special"
- UK TV's first pop show.
That's the only one I can think of, although plenty of movies have hijacked
pop tracks, e.g. -
The Doors - "The End": the jungle exploding into fire at the start of
Apocalypse Now.
Johnny Nash - "I Can See Clearly Now": the multiple hit at the start of
Grosse Pointe Blank.
The English Beat - "Mirror In The Bathroom": same movie, the killing of the
assassin at the class reunion.

Me, too. I just love this opening, with the Hueys and their blade
slap. Michael Herr referred to Vietnam as the rock & roll war and it
fits. I really liked "The Ride of the Valkyrie" coming into the hot
LZ, too. I don't know how realistic that scene was, though.
The opening scene of "Top Gun", dawn launches off a carrier, is very
similar, only it's jet engines and steam from the catapult. I really
like the LSO celebrating a good launch; it's something I'd have done
myself.

While used as the music for many cartoons and a certain, memorable Allan
Sherman song (Hello, Mudder, Hello, Fadder), if the last movement of the
William Tell Overture doesn't immediately bring to mind "The Lone Ranger",
then you definately were not a child of the 50's. Hi, Ho, Silver, Away!
