THEY'RE RUNNING OUT OF ARGUMENTS.... Republicans have had about three
days now to come up with a defense for John McCain picking Sarah Palin
as his running mate. So far, it's been a daunting challenge, with most
of the major arguments falling apart under scrutiny.
First, Palin was qualified for national office because she opposed the
infamous "bridge to nowhere." That turned out to be false (1). Second,
Palin was qualified because she lives in a state near Russia. That
turned out to be dumb (2). Third, Palin was qualified because she
supported the president's "surge" policy in Iraq. That turned out to
be false.
Yesterday, the new top-of-the-list talking point is that Palin is the
"commander in chief" of the Alaska National Guard. This was popular
with the some conservatives on Friday, but by yesterday, "It was hard
to keep track of how many Republicans on Sunday morning referred to
Gov. Sarah Palin as 'commander in chief' of the Alaska National
Guard."

They have also been saying that she has more executive experience than
Obama. In a sense that is true: She left the town of Wasilla (pop
6715) with nearly $20 million in debt; for a Republican, I guess that
counts as a good start to a political career.

There are more people in the freshman class at Ohio State University
than in the town of Wasilla. Does that mean the OSU dean of students
would make a good POTUS?

Well, that depends. Has the Deanery ever lead a successful
invasion of Michigan?

Hi guys,
I'm so liberal that I consider Obama a conservative. I'll be voting
for him, since he's as liberal as we're likely to get, and a little is
better than nothing. And while my only serious problem with Palin as
Governer is her attitude about abortion, I'm not willing to consider
voting for McCain, even though I think have an Alaskan VP would do
huge positive things for my home State.
I am truly sick of reading psychotic conservative Obama-bashers, and
I'm now (after only a couple of days) truly sick of reading psychotic
liberal Palin-bashers.
I live in Wasilla and commute to Anchorage daily. The commute takes 45
minutes to an hour, depending on traffic and the season. Takes a
little longer during Breakup and First Snowfall.

While I sympathize with the main thrust of the post, this isn't
right. From Palin's announcement after Trig was born:
"We knew through early testing he would face special challenges, ..."
They knew he had Downs well before he was born.
