Earthquake Question

Author: Scour Old Cereal Bowls

Do schoolkids in California have required drills about what to do if
there's an earthquake? What about adults? Are the owners of commercial
buildings required by law to hold drills from time to time?

What happens during a drill?

What about places like Memphis and Charlestown which haven't had recent
quakes but have had big ones in the past?

I am very old, but in the 1960s in the suburbs of San Francisco, yes, we
had earthquake drills. We were instructed to get under our desks and
cover our eyes and the backs of our necks with our hands. Then we'd get
the lecture about getting under a sturdy table or a doorframe if we were
not at school.

And never - ever - run outside to look for the Russian bombers overhead.
