  Fun facts

As is my more or less annual tradition, I offer the following list of
fun facts to be emailed hither and yon:

----------

The common housefly is unable to stop eating bacon grease. If it lands
on a patch of bacon grease it will either consume the entire patch or
die from overeating. A housefly is unable to eat more than 3/4"
square inches of bacon grease so this can be a entertaining but messy
way to dispose of flies.

In 1960, the Dominican Republic outlawed the practice of voodoo. In
retaliation, Haiti outlawed the playing of baseball.

The game "Donkey Kong" was developed by Japanese programmers. The
Japanese title was "Big Ape Kong." Translators mistakenly confused
the English "Donkey" with the intended "Monkey."

The giraffe has an extra heart located in its neck. Without it, it
would pass out every time it raised its head.

In my version of Free Agent (2.0/32.652), the solution would be:

Online > Sample Headers From Selected Groups > (specify the number of
headers you want to download).

That will fetch the n most recent headers and bring Agent up to date on
that group.

Apparently my neighbors have a cat that they leave out. Some other
neighbors originally thought it was mine because they always saw it sitting
in the chair on my balcony, but I deny ownership and for a couple weeks I
never even saw her. Finally yesterday I did see her. I spend a few hours
Sunday morning sitting on my balcony in the deck chair, reading the paper
and drinking beer. But it turns out I was sitting on *her* balcony in
*her* deck chair. I tried showing her the lease agreement but it seems
that cats, like Republicans, are not constrained by the law.

Anyway, she now hisses at me and stares at me with those hateful, hateful
eyes. Is there any hope? Is if safe to start my car in the morning? Do I
have to move?

Also, am I an alcoholic for drinking a couple beers on a Sunday morning
while sitting out on the balcony reading the paper? I mean, it was BEFORE
NOON, and this seems to be the surest sign of alcoholism in TV land.

  Auto Insurance: A question

Author: Estron

I paid off my car loan last month, and I received my lien-free title
earlier this month.

So now, with an asset worth somewhere between $1067 and $2850 (depending on
which appraisal web site you consult, I got my insurance renewal form
today. It's $280 for six months, for the coverages I've been required to
maintain by the lienholder. Not bad, but!

One web site says that, for Missouri: "The minimum insurance limits are
$25,000 per person/$50,000 per accident for bodily injury liability, and
$10,000 per accident for property damage liability. Missouri law also
requires everyone to carry uninsured motorist coverage of $25,000 for
bodily injury per person and $50,000 for bodily injury per accident."

I've got that and more: 50K property damage, underinsured (as opposed to
uninsured) motorist coverage for 25K/50K, collision, comprehensive and
rental reimbursement.

Just a quick survey: What coverages do y'all think are worth carrying on a
7-year-old outright-owned vehicle with a value as I outlined above?

I am getting old or something (part 125)

I was reading an editorial today in which some spoke out against ID
chips in drivers licenses*. He said that if he got a driver's license
with such a chip in it he would burn it like "our forefathers burnt
their draft cards".
Those hippies were my forefathers?
I thought Washington and Franklin and Jefferson et al were supposed to
be my forefathers. Was I sleeping in history class when they said that
Washington burnt his draft card?

*Whether these chips represent Big Brother at his worst is left as an
exercise to the weeder.

Ok...when you guys play Scrabulous, do you play solitaire with the
robot or really play other people?

I'm beating the shit out of the robot, but before I play online with
other humans and get the shit beat out of me, I'd like to know some
odds....anyone know the capabilities?
