  Lyme Disease

Author: Dana
Date: May 28, 2008 17:53

Living on ten idyllic acres caught up with me today, when I was
diagnosed with Lyme Disease. I knew I'd been bitten by a tick; I
pulled one off my scalp last week, but couldn't see the characteristic
rash, 'cause of my hair. Then I got some weird swollen glands on the
*back* of my neck, where it joins the shoulder, one on either side
symmetrically. Never had a swollen gland there before. Had one behind
my right ear, too. So I went to the local docs-in-the-box, and sure
enough, the doc found the rash under my hair. I'm now on doxycicline,
and expect to be fine in 10 days or so.

But I wondered if anyone here had any other info, anything else I
should know or watch out for? I'd like to avoid any potential long-
term effects.

did see.

Can anyone recommend a Linux newsreader?

Your Bishops are funnier than ours

"The Bishop of New Hampshire, Gene Robinson, is waiting in line for a
shuttle bus to the festival. The rain is pounding. The gorgeous, purple
episcopal robes are whipping about like a flag in the breeze. "Can't you do
something about this?" asks a fellow queuer, gesturing at the scowling
skies. "I'm in sales, not management," bats back Robinson in a flash."

  Two Linguistic Questions

1. Why is it "menopause", when the resumption of menses is not likely
at that point?

2. Why is it a "dessert"... was eating the main meal some kind of
onerous chore or something?

Thank you.

This is very cool.

I wonder why electrode grids implanted in brains only last a few
months, though?
This is distressing, as I was hoping for a few of my own.

And they say that no one has demonstrated a workable wireless system -
wouldn't that be just a function of size?
That they haven't been able to make routers small enough to cram into
a brain...
Or do the brain juices cause them to short out?

Anyway, I'm looking forward to The Future, which seems to be drawing
nearer day by day...

  Where's my stimulus check?

Author: Richard Evans
Date: May 28, 2008 15:03

They are being distributed according to the last two digits of your
social security number. Mine should have gone out May 16. No sign of
it. Here's a site that checks your individual status:

https://sa2.www4.irs.gov/irfof/IRServlet?app=IRACTC

It says it has no record of my check, even though it should have gone
out on May 16.

Anyone actually gottten a check?

  Honda Cogeneration Equipment?

Author: Jeff Wisnia
Date: May 28, 2008 10:05

Our local gas utility here in Red Sox Nation has been running radio ads
aimed at homeowners promoting Honda household-cogeneration equipment,
which includes mention of selling extra generated electricity back to
the utility, and gummint credits to help you purchase your equipment.

http://world.honda.com/news/2007/c070717Compact-Household-Cogeneration-Unit/

Any AFCANS have any experience with them?

  Heat pump and attic fan

Author:
Date: May 28, 2008 06:28

There's this house that just got listed that looks like a possibility.
But I'm not sure about the heating and cooling. It says:

Heat: Heat Pump
Cooling: Attic Fan, Central Electric

Does that mean it does or does not have air conditioning?

And how does a heat pump work? Is it expensive to operate? Is it
efficient?

I can ask my buyer's agents (husband and wife team) these things, of
course. But they don't know everything and you guys do.

Why don't any of these White House insiders have the balls to say the
truth until it is obvious to all and they can make money off a book?
Is there no such thing as integrity in politics anymore?
