Does the UK have ghost towns similar to those found in the US and
presumably, Canada? Ghost towns in the US usually happen when an industry,
that is the main employer in the town, fails, and there isn't enough to
support the town. Classic examples are mining towns, mostly from the boom
and bust days of early mining in the west, I suppose there are more recent
ones as well.

Alternatively, does the UK have towns or villages that were larger in the
past and now consist of the equivalent one gas station in the US.

I was thinking probably no, but I thought I'd ask. Oh, not counting Roman
ruins and the like. Towns that existed as recently as, um late 1800's to
early 1800's, say.

There was quite a bit of wind and rain last night around Kansas City; four
counties had tornado warnings at various times and the straight-line gusts
reached 70 mph. The damages reports in the news media Friday morning got
me thinking:

If a human being accosted you on the street with a baseball bat, knocked
you to the ground with a blow to your shoulder blades, stood over you and
took your wallet out of your pocket, and then ran off down the street,
would you later express _gratitude_ toward him that he did not hit you in
the head, kick you in the ribs while you were down, and take your watch and
cell phone as well?

I would not. I don't think many of you would either.

Yet, whenever there is severe weather causing damage, injury, and death,
usually there is someone around afterward who say something like, "Well,
our house is gone and every possession we own is destroyed, but thank God
we're not hurt or killed."

And I think, "Don't you believe that God caused the storms that destroyed
your house and possessions? And you're thanking him that he wasn't crueler
toward you?"

There's this lady at church who wants to set up an online presence to
sell Caribbean jerk sauce. (20%% of the proceeds go to Jamaican
missions, but that's not important right now.) She wants to be able to
take orders and accept credit cards online.

Anyone have a clue what's involved or how much it's likely to cost?
