Velveeta
Crisco
Pat Robertson
The list should be longer, but I can't remember the rest.

My list starts with Cecil Adams.

Velveeta and Pat Robertson I can understand, but surely shortening is
used in the UK? Lots of pies are made over there, and my friends who
actually bake things tell me that while pie crusts can be made with
lard, the invention of shortening was a tremendous improvement in pie
crust technology. In fact, it may be the only application for which
trans-fats ever had anything going for them over the more natural forms
of fat.
BTW, what sort of oil do chippies use in their deep fryers?

I'm sorry to inform you that your friends are actually the spawn of
Satan.
Pie crusts are properly made of lard and butter (savory pies) or pure
butter (sweet pies), used very cold, cut roughly into the flour, a tiny
bit of ice water mixed in and rolled on a stone surface. Crisco makes a
greasy tasting crust but does produce a flakier texture if the material
temperatures are too high.
There ARE some things that one must be dogmatic about. The nature of
God in the universe is nothing compared to pie.

I didn't even know we had a national motto.
