Recently a fire destroyed much of a ~10 story apartment in the Adams
Morgan area of DC. DCFD found that the water mains were unable to supply
sufficient volume for multiple engines, and eventually laid several
thousand feet of line across the Duke Ellington bridge to
reach other hydrants.

Much finger-pointing between DCFD and WASA has ensued since; but my
question is equipment focused. What size line was this likely to be?
Would an engine have been at the distant hydrant for boost, and what kind
of GPM is possible through it? How many deployed lines would be fed off
of it?

Does a large dept such as DC have a special truck with that much hose; or
just raid every engine company in reach for theirs?

{Part of the outcome is DCFD will test all the hydrants; WASA will
pay 50%% of the cost. The hydrants will be color coded by volume.}
