hi...

Can anyone diagnose this sad looking bugger? (12 days since
germination
I was wondering if it was some kind of mould or its down to an issue
with nutrients

Hmmm?! Could be a nutrient issue, but I'd keep watching it grow more &
use water that is not clorinated (i.e. use bottled/distilled water for a
while). Check some grow sites online, too.

Looks more like a mutation that a nutrient problem. I'd go with Judy's
idea.. Use distilled water only, no nutes for now. If no normal growth
shows up after a week or two, it probably won't... Maybe someone with
more knowledge or experience would have more to offer.

I would have to agree. In fact, flush it and with the last
flush use maybe one and a half ounces of hydrogen peroxide per gallon
in your last flush to restore oxygen to the roots. Gradually, over the
course of a couple of weeks, ramp up your nutrients again and watch
your plant to see how it responds. This won't hurt the plant but will
let you decide for sure if it is nutrient or mutation; I' guessing
mutation though but this flush will help to diagnose it with
certainty.

Trace nutrient lack of some sort, or maybe someone
poked it the wrong way as it germinated. Give it a
drink of kelp or Peter's and let it go for a week. Likely,
it'll recover with no further problems.

Every worthy new strain started out as a mutation.

Very true.
Be sure to let us know how the situation turns out with the
mutant or nutrient issue. Inquiring farmers want to know!
