If we were to judge the US by its penal policies, we would perceive a
strange beast: a Christian society that believes in neither
forgiveness nor redemption: George Monbiot

DEA Raid Paraplegic Medical Marijuana Users.

After the Pecos Valley Task Force arrested wheelchair-bound, legal
medical-marijuana patient Leonard French on Aug. 28 for cultivating
six plants, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson was incensed.

"I'm very concerned that the Bush administration, instead of going
after drug dealers, is going after people suffering from cancer, a
paraplegic, most recently," the Democratic presidential contender
stated. "That's inexplicable to me. And I'm gonna fight them."

Richardson signed the bill that made New Mexico the 12th state to
legalize medi-pot, which went into effect on July 1. French is one of
less than 50 patients who have joined to the nascent program so far.
However, the legislation requires the state to provide cannabis to
patients and doesn't allow them to grow it themselves.
