Smallest practical bonsai mum?

Smaller plants = more per given space. If mums, then
more genetic diversity per that space. Plants in 6" square
pots will grow lush, and will go a half year before having to be
repotted. Plants in 9 ounce red plastic cups look sickly
despite constant TLC. What's the smallest container size
that'll keep a plant alive and healthy?

know nuthin'.

I've grown both in the ground and in pots. 1 gallon is small. I grew
in 3 - 5 gallon pots with much less success than in the ground.
Nutrients are crucial - I used Miracle grow and my babies did pretty...
