You may know this already, but there was something about your usage
that made me want to assert this: Trichomes, specifically, glandular
trichomes in cannabis are hair-like structures a few *cells* long
with a ring/head made of a few gland cells that exude resin. An entire
trichome is barely visible with the naked eye. Often, the resin head/
trichome assembly are referred to collectively by either name.

Always, the basic rationale of determining completion is to harvest
the most thc possible in the best form possible. Best form means
several tbings: general smokability, harshness, flavor etc. Also very
important is the balance of cbd cbn, thc etc.

There are two common methods of determining completion. One involves
the color of the resin/trichomes, the other involves the color of the
pistils. Essentially in the case of the resin watch, you are looking
to its color for clues about its age and how that generally reflects
the issues mentioned above. Some people like clear resin, some like
amber/red some like translucent.

With pistil watching, the rationale is that when the pistil dies, the
associated floret is no longer developing, and therefore the
associated resin is beginning to degrade faster than its created.
(considered by many to be the optimum harvest time). So the idea is
to harvest when that process peaks, and it is considered to be peaking
when there are more in degradation than in development. In the end,
each variety is different, and a given plant will also often have a
noticeably different character depending on when harvested.

I like them all (i.e., all combinations). Its a matter of mood for me.
The point being there is no magic number because it is a matter of
taste. That brings us full circle to finding out what you like through
basic science.

Dry out? Die? Yellow? What exactly do you mean. It is common near the
end of the flowering for the plant to begin recycling its fan leaves.

*Usually* the way to think of it is this: Don't think of those leaves
as energy sinks. Those leaves are key factories !and! storage areas
and a lot of energy that has gone into creating complex chemicals can
be kept/not lost because the plant will recover/disassemble/relocate
stored chemicals of various kinds from those leaves until they are
used up and fall off on their own. The opposing argument usually is
that once they are shutting down they are just blocking light from
active parts of the plant. (rather than say diverting the plants
energy) Still in most cases, its lower leaves that aren't blocking
much that start to die off so my general attitude is leave em at least
till they almost fall off by themselves (if not waiting till they
do)..
>And stop fertilizing?

Stop fertilizing hydro and start flushing about a week before they are
finished or as soon as you decide they are done. Stop fertilizing soil
earlier than hydro but still essentially at the end of the cycle when
floral development is slowing/stopping.

Yay! I just harvested a few onces of some delicious Super Silver Haze
myself. Everyone has been really jazzed. My neighbor start coughing
and drooling and finally barfed after a too big bong hit. It was an
impressive sight. ;-)

Whatever little light I can provide gives me joy! Best of luck with
your crop.
