Avoided it for years (SNOB), got a litre on the flight home duty
free.....its a decent tipple for a Friday night after work, if you want to
keep your Malts to savour

I rotate half a dozen blends for that purpose -- Teachers, Famous
Grouse, Grant's Family Reserve and The Highlanders, Ailsa Craig, JW Red
and Black, with Black being the favourite and Ailsa Craig contributing
smoke.
Malt-wise, I've acquired a couple of replacement bottles of Smokehead, a
rambunctious bottling of a young south Islay, perhaps Lagavulin or Caol
Ila. It appeared in stores here in B.C. about a year ago, then
disappeared. A few bottles have reappeared in some stores lately;
clearing out the inventory, probably.
It's in the tradition of the Dun Bheagan and The Ileach: young,
assertive, peat and Islaydine

Here in olde North Carolina we cain't git none of those.
Closest we gits to "young, assertive, peat and Islaydine"
is the McClellan's Islay, which is more a youngish Bowmore.
Are we jealous or what???

I have a couple bottles of Smokehead here at the house. In Holland its
widely available and great value for money at 24. According to a
Dutch importer it is Ardbeg. Read here in Dutch.
"De Smokehead Single Islay malt whisky is eind april door Ian Macleod
Distillers Ltd. op de markt gebracht. Het is een Islay Single malt
whisky van de Ardbeg distilleerderij."
Iain Macleod brought it on the market. Its an Islay Single Malt from
the Ardbeg Destillery.
Peace,
Jock
