Don't know the Lagavulin but I recently opened a Laphroaig which was
matured in a sherry cask. I'd say sherry goes well with the typical
Islay-Taste of salt, wind, sand and peat ;-) The Laphroaig at cask
strength is just "wow". Very heavy with sand, diesel, harbour with a
sweetness which blows your mind away.
