It is not the beer that makes you fat, it's the things you eat alongside
with it. If you a lot of fat, that makes you fat.

For a liter of beer consider this as energy:
32 g carbs
40 g fat
400 kcal

For a liter of whisky consider this as energy:
0 g carbs
0 g fat
350 g alcohol
2375 kcal

For a liter of beer consider this as energy:

40 g fat

For a liter of whisky consider this as energy:
0 g carbs
0 g fat
350 g alcohol

Considering that the latter is about the recommended calorie-intake for
a standard male, you cannot eat anything during the day without
making your energy-balance negative, if you drink a bottle of whisky per
day. And having a negative energy balance makes you fat. That is the
simple truth behind it. It's not beer or whisky or the hamburger that
makes you fat, it's how much energy in the form of protein, fat, carbs,
alcohol you consume per day and how much energy you actually spend per
day. If you consume more than you spend, you get fat.
