What words do you use to describe, a book, TV series or film franchise
that is no longer entertaining to you ?
By that I mean it has neither "Jump the Shark" or "Nuked the Fridge"
but rather it has gone at least one book or episode to many,
if not an entire series or season to many.

1. Running on empty.
2. One foot in the grave.
3. Sinking fast.
4. Over the hill.
5. Going through the motions.
6. One toke over the line.
7. Run out of steam.
8. Long in the tooth.
9. Down wind from a skunk.
10. Other, your choice.

Sarah Palin and her Loyalty Oaths

Author: curmudgeon

Much has been said in the media about the so called Loyalty Oaths that Sarah
Palin has demanded for all those who worked for her as either Mayor or
Governor in Alaska.
But just how were those so called loyalty oaths worded ?

"I swear by almighty GOD this sacred oath that I will be unfailing and
unconditional obedient public servant to Sarah Palin.
That I will at all times diligently fulfill my official duties as a public
servant and that I shall be forever and at all times ready to give my life
for this oath.
So help me GOD."

  Animal Rescue Site

Have you done your click for the day?

Hi, all you animal lovers. This is pretty simple... Please tell ten
friends to tell ten today! The Animal Rescue Site is having trouble
getting enough people to click on it daily to meet their quota of
getting free food donated every day to abused and neglected animals.
It takes less than a minute (How about 20 seconds) to go to their site
and click on the purple box 'fund food for animals' for free. This
doesn't cost you a thing. Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the
number of daily visits to donate food to abandoned/neglected animals
in exchange for advertising.

Here's the web site! Pass it along to people you know.

AGAIN, PLEASE TELL 10 FRIENDS !!!

Sarah Palin = A person of Gender

Author: curmudgeon
Date: Aug 29, 2008 14:56

Don't all parties choose "persons of gender"? Not that I know of many
eunuchs or hermaphrodites in political office. But you never know!

My tongue was somewhere near my cheek. I was lost in the signifiers.
What I find odd is that if Palin did become vice president and then
president if McCain croaked and she appointed ultra-conservatives...

Something was revealed at a press conference last Friday in California.
But I am pretty sure it was not proof of Bigfoot's existence.
In case you have not been keeping up with the latest Bigfoot news, two
Georgia men claim to have found the body of a Bigfoot this summer in the
isolated woods of northern Georgia.
The Associated Press said they have offered three different accounts of how
they discovered it.
But no matter, they have the body in a freezer in a secret location, they
have given samples of something for DNA testing, and they have legendary
Bigfoot supporter Tom Biscardi promoting their story.
But they have not produced the body, only grainy photographs of it.
They have not protected the chain of evidence for the DNA sample.
And so far, they have nothing but a strange yarn to...

  Faux Shakespeare, misattributions *!*

Author: curmudgeon

This is sort of On Topic for those of us who read and who write...
I've mentioned before here that I think that sometimes you run across the
most interesting things when you are not looking for them, but searching
for something else.. For example ...
http://www.enotes.com/shakespeare-quotes/appendix-faux

On my way to looking up a citation for a "vaguely Shakespearian" sounding
phrase I was going to use in an article I'm writing, I came across an
interesting educational website that lists phrases that are oftentimes
misattributed to the Bard. It's not that Will didn't use them in his works,
just that he may not have been the first. Many of these are now part of our
everyday language and culture, such as "It's Greek to me," and "Thereby
hangs a tail," "In a pickle," etc.. and "Cold Comfort" (never knew that!)

I cannot vouch for the accuracy at the site and it's pretty basic info
(mainly geared to students and teachers), but it is something fun to
investigate.
Enjoy!

*Tropic Thunder* a movie Boycott perhaps

Author: curmudgeon
Date: Aug 11, 2008 10:48

A coalition of disabilities groups is expected as early as today to call for
a national boycott of the film "Tropic Thunder" because of what the groups
consider the movie's open ridicule of the intellectually disabled.
The film, a movie-industry spoof directed by Ben Stiller is set for release
Wednesday by Paramount Pictures and its Dream Works unit.
"Not only might happen, it will happen," Timothy P. Shriver, chairman of the
Special Olympics, said of the expected push for a boycott.
A particular sore point has been the film's repeated use of the term
"RETARD" in referring to a character, Simple Jack, who is played by Stiller
in a subplot about an actor who chases an Oscar by portraying a mindless
dolt.

Thoughts about buying a new car

Author: family
Date: Aug 1, 2008 12:02

Well both needles (minivan) and curs (pickup truck) are about ready to be
replaced by another newer vehicle, as both the van and truck are 20 th.
century, 2 nd millennium models.
It is rather a moot point as to which will get replaced first, the van or
the truck.
Which ever gets the better trade in deal we suppose.
But it is the list of critical need to know information about our next new
car that will make or break the sale.
Not in any real order, just a short list of things that both needles and cur
would really like to know before they buy a new car.
1. How many miles per gallon does it get ?
2. How many gallons does the gas tank hold ?
3. How and were does it rank on he Insurance Safety ratings system /
4. What comes standard with the car ?
5. Is the car easy to use ?
6. Is the car...
