I think I get what you mean. I suppose there arn't many chefs that
just cook traditional British food.

if "trad" means meat and 2 veg yes, but a place like Rules is trad
British, pub food is usually trad british. What would a New Zealand
"traditional" chef be, or American (outside of tex mex and cajun) or
Ozzie? I think all the anglo saxon english speaking ex UK colonies
cook stuff based on UK food overlaid with the cooking of other
immigrant/colonist groups, thats why americans are blind to seeing
english food existing? Its what a fair number of thier ancestors
(includung the Irish ones, the food is similar) would have originally
cooked.

I think its really sad that probably the two most popular TV chefs and
writers, Nigella Lawson and Jamie Oliver, both cook mainly Italian
food. I'd love if it someone as popular as those two could teach the
TV watching population about the joys of British cooking. Or at the
very least French cooking. What this country needs is more butter,
cheddar and parsley and less olive oil, basil and parmesan.

Snob value. Pure out and out snob value. "Oh darling, I cook nothing but
Italian because it reminds me so much of all the holidays we have had there"

Jane Grigson? OK, it may be a little late for a TV programme but I heard
her daughter was in the business as well?
