Maple Butter Snaps

2 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup butter or margarine -- softened
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 teaspoon maple flavor extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 egg
In to large bowl measure all ingredients with mixer at low spee. Beat
ingredients until well blended. Occasionally scrapping bowl with rubber
spatula.
Shape dough in to a ball. Wrap with plastic wrap. Refrigerate dough 1 hour
or until firm enough to handle or place dough in freezer 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
On lightly floured surface with lightly floured rolling pin roll half of
dough 1/8 inch thick.
With floured 3 inch round fluted cookie cutter cut dough in to rounds.
With pancake turner place rounds on ungreased large cookie sheet about 1/2
inch apart.
Using blunt end of wooden skewer press holes around outer edge of each
cookie to form a pretty boarder.
Lightly press 1 inch heart shaped canap
