Grandma's Raisin Cookies

1 cup raisins or currants
1 cup boiling water
1 cup butter
5 tablespoons blackstrap molasses
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups whole wheat pastry flour
1 1/2 cups rolled oats
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon -- optional
1/2 cup almonds -- chopped
Place raisins in boiling water and simmer 15 minutes, then drain raisins,
reserving 7 tablespoons of the liquid.
Cream together the butter and molasses. Add eggs and vanilla, and beat until
light.
Mix in the remaining ingredients, plus raisins and reserved liquid. Stir
well, then chill 30 minutes.
Drop by teaspoonfuls onto an oiled cookie sheet and bake at 350
