Brown Sugar Pecan Icebox Cookies

1 cup butter
2 cups brown sugar
2 large eggs -- beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup pecans -- chopped
3 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/4 teaspoon salt

Brown butter well in frying pan. Pour over brown sugar and mix well.
Add eggs, vanilla, and pecans.
Sift together dry ingredients and add to the above mixture.
Form into rolls, approximately 1-1/2 inches in diameter, wrap tightly in
waxed paper, and chill overnight.
Slice thinly and bake about 12 minutes at 350
