  Watching recorded DVD's with Vista.

Author: Alex Clayton

I have a couple DVD recorders, use DVD+RW media to record TV shows. On my XP
machines these play with WMP. I can copy them to the hard drive and watch or
watch off the disk. I made the mistake of trying to copy one on this Vista
machine, then watch, and it crashed so bad I had to format it. I then tried
to watch one, this has WMP 11 and 2 other DVD players that came with it.
None of them can play them. Anyone know a way to play these on Vista. Home
premium if it matters, and the machine plays commercial DVD's great using
any of the players on it, just will not play the recorded ones.

WTB: Compaq Presario S4020WM Recovery Kit/drive clone

Author: Amcfan
Date: Aug 28, 2008 08:33

Major coincidence - PC harddisk fail and backup found to be bad. Compaq/HP
will not sell the recovery kit.

Compaq Presario S4020WM
Need either recovery disk set or a clone/image of drive on hard disk. Can be
delivered on small drive as it will be cloned over.

These machines are under the blanket license of Compaq and the software will
be reactivated under the PC's VALID license (product key). This is 100%%
legal.

  Reflective screen

My new HP Laptop has a high gloss screen and reflects all the light in
the room (including the windows) and is very distracting. Is there
anything I can get to cover the screen so that it is not "reflective"

This is a cross post

  Questions About Stand Alone DSL

Author:
Date: Aug 26, 2008 13:33

Rather than get DSL thru Verizon phone co., I'm thinking of using a
local ISP whose people speak English and which has a good reputation
for its dial-up service. The sales guy said that this requires a
stand alone connection which involves an installation fee.

1) Do they connect the router/modem to the phone box that's located on
the outside of the house?

2) If so, is there any need for them to come in the house for any
hardware or software installation?

3) If I keep a cheap-dial-up as a back up, would I need to uninstall
any of the stand alone stuff, either inside or outside, in order to
connect with the dial-up? Thanks guys.

  audio cd's too fast

Author: Carl Pedersen

Hi, I'm trying to revive an old computer to use old printers & scanners that
won't work on xp. I've tried 3 different cd drives & they all pay audio cd's
faster than normal. What can I do about that & would those drives be ok with
data or program disks. Thanks in advance for the help.

  HP Laptop

I just purchased an HP Inspiron laptop that has an AMD Turionx2 64
processor. Does this mean this is a "64 bit processor"? Some of the
software I need to download asks if my computer is 32 or 64 bit.

  problem with file corruption

Author: thedarkman
Date: Aug 8, 2008 17:37

I have a serious problem regarding jpgs. I noticed some time ago that
a lot of mine, which are mostly of people and buildings, etc, have
become corrupted. I am using a fairly old computer with Windows 2000;
last year I was using an older one but upgraded of sorts.

A lot of the files don't read at all, but some have become mixed up,
ie a jpg that is meant to be of a tree will be of something entirely
different.

I've had file corruption before, years ago, but that was with WordStar
files, and the problem was floppy disks. A lot of these files have
been burned to CD; I'm not sure about the others.

I thought one cause could be that I have a lot of files in the
directories, some I have five thousand or more, but this really
shouldn't be a problem,

Can anyone identify the problem, and more to the point tell me how to
stop it in future, and how if possible to recover the lost files?

Thanks
