What is a cat5e patch cord?

Author: Lord Turkey Cough

I have two of them both have cat5e printed on them
one has a crossover to connect computer to computer, the other came
with my cable modem and is 'straight through'.

How do I tell the differnce?

I think I have the right one for the cross over because the other
one gives an error.

There is other stuff printed on it

  Copy boot drive??

Author: DC

Hello,
New to this group, but maybe someone can advise.

I've just put a second hard drive in this machine-160G
as a slave to the original 80G one.

What I have in mind is to copy the whole of drive C: onto
the new one, and then remove the original for use in a USB enclosure.

The question is, how to go about it........

Thanks,
Dave C.

DO I POST THE WEIRDEST COMPUTER PROBLEMS OR DO YOU GUYS SIMPLY NOT KNOW??

Author: ChrisCoaster

Two weeks ago I posted about an issue with the favorites menu in
Internet Explorer on an XP computer at work. I stated that a small
chad appeared near a subfolder of Favorites and blocked me from
accessing the contents until I closed and reopened explorer. No
suggestions.

Yesterday, Sat June 28th, I posted about my printer printing websites
I visited a long time ago instead of the document I intended to
print. No takers.

Do you experts on here simply not know the answer to these odd
problems or are you ignoring me as a poster??

I need to know.

This HP Vista Machine is HAUNTED!

Author: ChrisCoaster

This afternoon I went to print "current page" of a PowerPoint 2007
presentation. Before printing that, the packaged HP F4180 DeskJet
started printing a thread from a BASEBALL forum I had visited a WEEK
ago.

Consistently, when copying mp3 files from one folder to another, or to
my flash-drive, it just plain wouldn't copy. Or, it would copy a Word
or Excel file that I hadn't opened in weeks!

Well, I hope Bill Gates enjoyed his official retirement ceremony on
Friday, because he sure left a heck of a MESS behind with this "Vista"
o.s.!

  Shuttle AK32E boot problem

Author:
Date: Jun 28, 2008 04:21

Background info
-----------------------
I have a Shuttle AK32E MB that has been very reliable since I bought
it a few years ago.

Recently, meaning a few months, I my brother gave me his 'broken
computer' knowing that I like them for parts. It turned out that it
wasn't broken. Somehow, he has kids, the sata drives boot drivers got
corrupted. I called him and told him in case he wanted it back. But he
had already bought a new one and told me to keep it. Since it happened
to be much better than my AK32E I figured I'd use it instead and use
my old one as a nice backup, just in case.

  monitor screen going bad

Author: J Buck

my wife's monitor (an LG flatscreen) is deteriorating. The symptoms
include blurriness and shadows falling to the right of images. It's less
than 2 years old. The only thing we can think of is that's been rather
humid lately. Is it pooched, or can it be saved? TIA.

  Home LAN question

Author: e.w.
Date: Jun 25, 2008 17:45

Hello, I have an issue that I need help resolving for a home LAN I am
planning.

My current router has only four wired ports, and they are all used. I
have the need for more ports, and was looking on Newegg at both
switches and hubs. Basically, I would like to know if I can piggyback
them together from one of the outputs (searching the net seems to
indicate that I can) to the input of the switch (or hub?). Also, the
Netgear switches I was looking at with eight ports have only the eight
ports labeled 1-8 but there is no "input" port as in an ordinary
router, so how would I go about wiring things up? The router I have
also handles the FiOS line, so I want to continue to use it.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I am working on my neighbors PC (Dell) and she seems to have lost all of her
user icons on the login screen. (WinXP)
you can see the mouse moving on the blue screen, but it does not allow you
to select anything.

Any ideas?

  usb upgrade

Compaq Presario 5320 US
Windows XP Pro
Installed USB 2.0 PCI card. The internal port on the card is apparently for
the usb ports on the front of the case.
The cable from the front ports plugs into the motherboard with a multi pin
plug (not usb). The connection is marked "usb header". Do I need some kind
of a jumper/adapter to get usb 2.0 up front.
