  File restoration question

Author: gemellar
Date: Jul 31, 2008 19:55

Hello, i recently used a file restoration program to recover formatted/
overwritten files from my harddrive. i want to know that after the
first scan, if i do a second scan, will different and or more files
show up? regardless if i do a format or raw scan, i really want to
know if it would be necessary to do more than one scan to see if other
files would show up.

thank you for your help anybody

  Memory Question

Can a virus infect a memory dim chip and still be present and remain there
after your computer is turned off? I think everything is lost in ram memory
when you turn off your computer isn't it? Thanks.

  Ubuntu multiboot ?

Author:

Ubuntu 8.04 is new OS for me and wondering :

I've got several PC's/drives with multiple OS'es on them and would like to
overwrite Vista beta on one of the partitions. I have a disk with X64, XP
and Vista beta 32/64 on it that currently uses "Vistaboot Pro". Can I
wipe/reformat the Vista beta partitions and install Ubuntu on them or
would then fixing the boot area be a hassle ( I saw GRUB mentioned in
threads )

Did a search:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=1&ct=result&cd=1&q=Ubuntu...
couldn't find specifically: order to install ( like with MS its win95,nt
.... vista)
Ubuntu install - after all others OK ?
I tried a new of the Google links and the Valusoft webpage ( my cd mfr)
but couldn't find specifics on overwriting / impact on booting.

  Wireless security follow-up

Following the advice given here I am trying to enable the wireless security
on my router and need some help.

Option 1 is WEP
If I select WEP then I have the option of 64bit or 128bit, then key type of
Hex or Ascii.
I'm assuming hex is 8 of something. Is it just numbers?
What is ascii then? A combination of letters and numbers? How many? Eight
also?
Sorry if these are basic and dumb questions, don't jump all over me. It's
new to me and the Kyocera manual isn't very helpful.

Thanks,
Joe J

  Merge partitions?

Author: David Azose

Is there any way to merge 2 partitions (C: and D:) in XP Home, so they
end up as just C: WITHOUT having to buy a program for $50-$60? Since I
will probably use this program once, I would like not to have to buy it.

Windows XP does come with a "disk management" program but when I tried
that, the D: partition just went away! So now, instead of an 80gb drive,
I have a 15gb drive with about 55gb showing up as "unallocated". I know
about Partition Magic (which is part of Norton Ghost, I think), but is
there anything free or lower cost out there? Thanks for any help.

SOLVED - windows xp rename folder within shared folder, not refreshing window

SOLVED - windows xp rename folder within shared folder, not refreshing
window

problem was I tried to rename a folder and it didn't seem to do
anything. Turned out it was, but the screen wasn't refreshing
automatically. I had to do it manually F5.
And it applies only to a particular shared folder.

The well known Shared Documents one.
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\

I could access it remotely..

The solution was to right click , go to Sharing and Security.
You have that area that says
"Share thus folder on the network"
"Allow network users to change my files"
Share Name _______________

I had both unticked and no share name..
I actually wanted both ticked anyway.. So I did and entered the share
name and it's fine now. That solved it.

how to make a widescreen 221:100 DVD

Author: Roky
Date: Jul 28, 2008 23:17

I am trying to make a dvd from a mpeg4 1 gb file.

first i tried ulead to make the dvd but the file size was too big. i
then tried to convert it with ulead but it seemed to be taking 5
seconds per frame.
so i tried xilisoft which took 2.5 hours to convert to mpeg 2, but
none of my burning programs could open or see the file though it was
there.

then i converted it with blaze media pro which took 10 hours. then i
had to use ulead to burn it to dvd. I tried to set the blaze media pro
to the 221:100 setting but it seems to have come out looking the same
as when i used the ulead without the 221:100 setting

but the video is too stretched out vertically. when i play it or the
original mpeg 4 or converted mpeg2 files it only looks ok in the VLC
player when i set it to 221:100

when i play it in my dvd player, a cheap one, there is no widescreen
mode and even setting the hd tv to widescreen doesnt help enough.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
