I am writing an application that processes a large data file one
sample at a time. Of course, I will buffer input and output data to
minimize disk access. My question is, what would be the optimum
buffer size to read from and write to an NTFS disk? How about HFS+?

I searched for this, but only found info on defragmenting.

For about two weeks ago, I had two of these incidents (13 days apart
between them):

hdb: dma_timer_expiry: dma status == 0x61
hdb: DMA timeout error
hdb: dma timeout error: status=0x58 { DriveReady SeekComplete DataRequest }
ide: failed opcode was: unknown
hda: DMA disabled
hdb: DMA disabled...

Which of the above 2 is the better in terms of playback quality? And do they
both upscale whatever you input into them i.e. if i was to plug my STB into
one of these and output via it.
