This should have been done long ago. Embed GPS chipsets in future
laptops.

Only if the user could activate / deactivate on demand.

The first to learn how would be the thief. Next would be
the teenager.

That's one implementation. I'd be just as happy to have a laptop with
802.11n, Bluetooth, GPS, and EVDO-revA built in so that I don't have any
external crap hanging off my laptop.

Levono has one that looks about right, although the GPS is aGPS based on
the EVDO card, and I'm having trouble finding out if there is anything
resembling a real GPS receivers included, or if it's pure
location-by-cell-tower (and wifi?)

Being a mobile junkie here's my input.

1) I've read countless articles on device specifications that
resemble the "not a real GPS receiver" statement.

2) The HTC Touch for example was quoted as not having a "real GPS
receiver." So inevitably it meant you had to purchase a Bluetooth-
capable GPS receiver. Lo and behold, we find out that HTC did in
fact include a GPS receiver (GPRS/EVDO-based (tower-dependent))
which was merely not enabled by Sprint (in this example).

Lenovo (if I manage to spell it correctly) has a nice looking unit that
meets my specs, planning to buy it as soon as I finish my current move
and have a stable enough address to ship something.

I think the important point is the resolution of the location, and
whether or not it works "off the grid"
