I really can't disagree with the suggestion you put forth here. What
happens with the Pricelessware discussion is a bit secondary to the
purpose, as I understand it, of a newsgroup. Any given freeware website
discussion can be discussed here as far as I'm concerned.

It also appears that a lot of the emotional arguments stem from a sense
of tradition for what has happened here in the past. I guess some
people put a great value on tradition and this is ultimately a personal
choice.

I would have no problem with discussion of anything here related to
freeware as long as it was appropriately flagged such as "PLW" for
Pricelessware, "OT" for off topic, "SEX" for sex related software
topics etc. I'm also not naive enough to believe that everyone here
would follow this convention. Perhaps that is the fundamental problem
is that everybody has a personal idea about how the group should work
and more than one person wants to be "in charge." By definition an
unmoderated newsgroup cannot be controlled by anyone...that's why I
don't involve myself in the flamethrower practice that goes on here. I
think it's basically stupid and unproductive unless you want to be
King. I don't.

Finally, as to the website maintenance and so forth, let those who want
to play with it go ahead; I see that as a separate, though very
valuable project.

Ok, thanks for answering my question in a civil fashion.
