Media player and screen saver

I can not watch a movie in media player without the screen saver kicking in. I have the option off to allow the screen saver so that is not the issue. I am running MP 11 and Windows Vista Home Premium. I am not a newbie but this has got me chasing my tail. I have to turn off screen savers then start the movie, and then reverse the procedure when done. Any help?
