Well, I tried Exact Audio Copy (EAC) and it was a great program that
really worked hard to obtain an error free reproduction of my audio
disks, however, it took ages to copy a single CD (I'm talking HOURS and
HOURS). If I wanted to make exact duplicates of my audio collection,
I'd go with this.
If on the other hand I just wanted to rip the audio CD's so I had a
collection of mp3's to put on my MP3 player, I definitely wouldn't use
EAC, not by a long shot. Lets face it, I don't need precise audio
reproduction for a set of earphones. Having used AudioGrabber in the
past I can tell you it does a decent enough job but its a bit dated now
and I wanted to give something else a try.
So what did I end up using? I decided to give BonkEnc (
www.bonkenc.org)
a try and to my amazement, it works like a dream. Rips the suckers
right smart. Best news is that it's open source and being maintained.
It supports CDDB and multiple encoders which is good. It could do with
some minor improvements (like more choices in how it saves the rips to
disk) but overall, I'm really impressed with it and recommend it as a
decent enough replacement for AudioGrabber.
