DVD Active is reporting this morning that Warners is releasing a
"Classic Comedy Teams Collection" on November 21 (SRP $29).

Laurel & Hardy's two 1940s MGM films lead the way, Nothing But Trouble
(1943, with Edgar Kennedy)and Air Raid Wardens (1944), with Abbott &
Costello's MGM films Lost in a Harem (1944) and A&C In Hollywood
(1945). Finally, the Three Stooges star in Meet the Baron (1933, with
Jimmy Durante and Zasu Pitts) and Gold Raiders (1951, with George
O'Brien).

Each comedy team will be represented with two films on one disc, and
the discs will also be sold separately ($15 each).

Great news...I am definitely looking forward to this.

I guess this settles the question of who owns "Gold Raiders." I had
thought that would have been part of the (former) Turner holdings, but
I was confused because as far as I know, that film never, ever...

Interesting mirror image concerning Laurel & Hardy / Abbott & Costello:

When these new DVDs come out, the majority of Abbott & Costello movies
will have been released in America on DVD save for a few odds and ends
(specifically, "It Ain't Hay," "Rio Rita" and "Abbott & Costello Meet
Captain Kidd").

The flip-side of this is Laurel & Hardy: the release of "Air Raid
Wardens" and "Nothing But Trouble" concludes the releases of Laurel &
Hardy odds and ends on DVD in America, yet the majority of Laurel &
Hardy movies (the Roach films most of us have gotten from Germany, the
UK, etc.) have yet to be released on DVD in the US.

The copyright on "Gold Raiders" was renewed by Warner Brothers. (I
checked on this personally, to see if the feature had entered the
public domain.) Warners inherited it from the Seven Arts-Associated
library, which inherited it from AAP. It's about time for an official
video release; I always wondered whether the folks at Warners knew they
owned a Stooge picture.

I respect Jim's opinion, but I LIKE "Gold Raiders" and always have.
I've seen a terrific print of it and it looks infinitely better than
the twelfth-generation video dubs out there.

I'm glad to hear that "Air Raid Wardens" and "Nothing but Trouble" are
due out. Those titles will fill out many a collection. That takes care
of the forties stuff
-- now if Lionsgate would only issue the thirties
stuff!

Wonderful news! Very happy to have this set coming out soon. Just in
time for the holidays.
Looking forward to this comedy teams set with Stan and Ollie, of
course, leading the pack.

young, I needed the work...no, no.)
