I watched it (and NOTHING BUT TROUBLE) last night on DVD.
Quality is generally excellent. Only defect I noticed was a light
scratch that appeared for a minute or two in WARDENS- but unless you're
watching it on a big screen, you might not even notice it.

DANCING MASTERS has made the Fox Movie Channel rotation. It will be
aired Christmas Day at noon. The other two that are in rotation are
BIG NOISE and BULLFIGHTERS.
Bye the bye, do you think Hardy says the "S" word when their jalopy
hits the tree in ARW?

Not too many people think of L&H associated with pathos.
Chaplin revolutionized screen humor by introducing that
aspect into his arsenal of tricks. His use of it always
involved affairs of the heart--the outsider who longed for
the romantic fairy tale ending only to have it come crashing
down when reality intruded.
Lloyd carried the mantle into his feature films in the 20's,
adding character traits to gain audience sympathy. The
heroine is always attracted to Lloyd's underdog but he is
never worthy of her affections until he can overcome his
shortcomings, such as shyness, bravado, ambition...etc.
Keaton rarely treaded in such waters since his taciturn
charactors seldom asked for sympathy. His most noted
excursion into Chaplin territory, "Go West" had a decided
Keaton twist as the pathos centered around the forces trying
to seperate Keaton from his pet cow.

Matt - I'm going to copy and paste previous comments (with some new
asides added) that I've made about this film below:
Out of the final 8 studio films, this one holds a unique place for me.
Namely, it has
some horrible flaws (the scenes where Stan can't sign his name and the
"we're not normal people speech" that Stan makes...

I suppose I'll have to get this DVD set, although I'm not a very big
fan of either Air Raid Wardens or Nothing But Trouble. The real treats
for me will be the Abbott and Costello and Three Stooges features, none
of which I've ever seen. Are there any bonus features on this set, or
is it just the feature films?
See ya!

Why would that be necessary? Stan signs an "X" on the registration card
in AIR RAID WARDENS only to be pulled back by Ollie who tells him, " No
X's, sign your real name." Then Stan reluctantly goes back to write his
name on the card. All you'd have to do is cut right after he signs the
"X".
For me I have no problem with any scene in AIR RAID WARDENS and enjoy
it just as it is.
