We currently are growing our Vaccine Manufacturing business and have a number of opening for Manufacturing Engineers for various shifts within our Merck Manufacturing Division. These positions will be located at the West Point, PA facility.

Manufacturing Engineer, under the supervision of a Technical Advisor or Manager, is responsible for providing technical support in the field of engineering, microbiology, chemistry, or biology.
Assistance is varied particularly as applied to resolution of manufacturing mechanical or automation problems, implementation of process control, data collection techniques, time studies, equipment utilization, and implementation of improved processes in compliance with GMP, safety, and environmental regulations.
Provides day-to-day technical support in assigned area which may include vaccine bulk manufacturing, filling, lyophilization, or packaging. Ensures quality, safety, environmental and operating cost goals are achieved and completes projects and prepares reports while adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices, Safety, and Environmental Regulations.
Works with supervisor to formulate and recommend projects and, on approval, executes laboratory work or field demonstrations. On occasion, may provide supervisory coverage to ensure supply of a high quality product. On routine operations is guided by standard procedures. On atypical processing, process mechanical or automation changes, and unusual situations, confers with immediate supervisor in decision making. Communicates frequently with immediate supervisor about status of area of responsibility.
Supervises, trains, develops, motivates, makes assignments for employees being supervised within the framework of company policies and labor agreement. Uses technical knowledge to assure the efficient operation of variety of processing equipment such as fermentors, centrifuges, filling lines, packaging lines, lyophilizers, distributed control systems, etc. Assists in installing and placing new equipment into operations. Develops solutions for resolution of manufacturing, mechanical or automation problems. Assists in the investigation of atypical processing events and recommends action to prevent recurrence.
Works with staff group to implement productivity improvement projects. Assists in the preparation of process studies, engineering standards, equipment utilization, and profit plan. Responsible for control of product yield, material charge, and supplies usage. Explains and enforces all GMPs, safety, and environmental regulations. Periodically reviews manufacturing documents, preventive maintenance, and SOPs to ensure compliance with GMP and safety. Assist in audits and training in the area of responsibility
Requirements
All qualified candidates must hold a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Engineering and/or Life Sciences. Candidates who have experience in a pharmaceutical environment cGMP; manufacturing or staff support experience; and/or managing hourly staff in a unionized environment.will be highly desirable. Candidates must have demonstrated teamwork skills, interpersonal skills, excellent analytical abilities, written and verbal communication skills.
