This is an excellent opportunity to join our staff in a role that will provide strategic direction for ATK Tactical Propulsion and Controls locations. Alliant Techsystems,Tactical Propulsion and Controls Division, located inElkton, MDis currently seeking aProject Engineerto perform engineering design efforts in support of rocket propulsion system development program. Based on experience, skills and knowledge of solid and liquid rocket propulsion systems, you may lead an engineering team or support senior staff as part of the proposal or design development team. Responsibilities for this position include: - Perform preliminary and detailed design of propulsion systems, subsystems, and components. These may include propellant grain design, internal and external ballistic analysis (performance with variability), pressure vessel sizing, insulator and thermal system sizing, nozzle and igniter design, valve and actuator sizing, ordnance and S&A selection, final integration. - Develop a prototype hardware testing in a laboratory/ production environment. - Design and develop components/subassemblies/assemblies using 2D and 3D IDEAS CAD or similar software for solid rocket motor and control (valve) systems. - Design to customer requirements while being able to help define customer requirements in the preliminary design phase. Requirements for this position include: - Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering; Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering is desired. PhD in Engineering is also preferred but not required. - 12 years or more of relevant work experience with propulsion systems and mechanical design - Demonstrated logical problem solving skills and presentation/ writing skills - Experience with working in a team environment is also desired - US Citizenship is required With $4.5 billion in annual sales, approximately 17,000 employees, and operations in 21 states, ATK is a company on the move!
