Does anybody know what the purpose of the spiral wire wound brake lines is
on GM cars and trucks? The only reference I can find calls it "coiled armor
shielding". Maybe so the steel line doesn't get a hole worn into it by
chafing on something?

July 22 (Bloomberg) -- General Motors Corp. and Ford Motor Co., the
two biggest U.S. automakers, have about a 46 percent chance of default
within five years, according to Edward Altman, a finance professor at
New York University's Stern School of Business.

``Both are in very serious shape and the markets reflect that,'' Altman,
the creator of the Z-score mathematical formula that measures bankruptcy
risk, said in an interview with Bloomberg Television. The model shows
that these companies are ``on the verge of bankruptcy,'' he said.

The Z-scores for GM and Ford give both a bond rating equivalent to a CCC
ranking, though GM is in slightly worse condition than Ford, Altman
said. GM reported a $38.7 billion loss in 2007, the biggest in its
100-year history, and hasn't posted a profit since 2004. The scores are
based on the companies' finances at the end of the first quarter.

Hello all...

I've got a 1990 Chevrolet Lumina Euro 3.1 that runs and drives well in every
way except one--sometimes at idle or when coming to a stop, it will simply
die. It always starts right back up again like nothing happened, and has
never turned on the Service Engine Soon light.

At times I get a warning in the way the tachometer behaves. The needle will
"flutter" below 1000 RPM. It doesn't always stall when it does this, but
it's a pretty good indication of whether it will or not.

GM doesn't make anything like the Outback. Station wagon form, good ground
clearance, AWD, great Consumer Union rating. Looks right in all respects.

GM of course could have beat the Outback at their own game had they
listened to their disgruntled customers on this Newsgroup. In fact, GM
could have bettered the Outback if they put some aerospace engineers on the
project, taken out a thousand pounds, made it mechanic friendly,
desensitized the steering, gas pedal, etc. But it wasn't to be. GM never
listens, only digs itself deeper towards oblivion.

I will throw a block party when GM soon goes belly-up, flops and rolls over
dead as a doornail.
