Comments sought about EV's new DC-One system controller.

Author: Eeyore

Yes, we are finally getting a proper system controller for the FOH at
'the Horn' and going 3 way active after over a year of me badgering the
owner/manager about it.

Shuttlesound offered EV's new DC-One, which since it's to drive an EV
rig sounds like a sensible choice.

Now, when I looked at the data sheet, at an initial glance I took one of
those dreaded 'gel badges' to be the power on-off switch. Not so it
seems.

The power switch is on the BACK !

I have asked if this means it's suitable for continuous 24/7 powering
and not had a firm reply, other than to say the power switch is on the
back.

Now, am I over-reasting but just how daft is it to put the power switch
on the back of a unit that'll be permanently installed in an amp rack ?
Although the rack does happen to be on wheels, it's meant to be a
permanent install and I really don't want people buggering about in the
back of it twice a day or more. Kinda defeats the damn purpose !

I mean, do EV put their amplifiers' power switches on the back ? Of
course not !

  Miking cymbals

Newbie question. I have our drummer mic-ed with a kick drum mic, and a SM57
clone near the toms. Far from ideal, but it gets some drums through the PA.
I would like to get some of the cymbals into the mix, and I think I have
read that a condenser mic is the way to go here. I see stage setups where
they seem to have 2 flown kinda high over the kit. Cost IS an option, but I
don't want to buy something that won't get the job done. What should I look
for? What pattern is best for this application? I understand that
condensers are not as sturdy as dynamic microphones. What brands/models are
more "bulletproof" for this application? Thanks in advance for all helpful
answers.

Safe to buy wireless / FCC frequency changes??

Author: infinitisound

I was wondering your opinion about about wireless mics. In particular
the Shure ULX J1 band (554-590 mhz).
Does anyone know if there is any talk of this frequency band being
reallocated?

  Behringer CX3400 crossover - help!

I have one of these crossovers set up in two way mode and feeding a
summed low output to a bridged mono sub amp. It all works great, very
happy with it. Problem is I want to use the limiter correctly and I'm
having trouble getting my head around how to set it up. The manual
doesn't give more than a two liner about it.

A brick wall type it would be simple, but the "interactive gain" thing
is a bit lost on me.

Please will somebody more experienced, point me in the right direction.

  Multiple speakers for a restaurant

Author: B11
Date: May 29, 2008 04:35

I have to install multiple speakers in a restaurant and I'd appreciate
your inputs/advice/recommendations!

Hall size: rectangular -- 20 ft x 70 ft.

No. of speakers: 6 to 8 (Are they too many??) All speakers will be
installed on the roof. 2 of them on the wall facing the tables. We are
thinking of 8" RadioShack for the roof and 12" for the wall.

The PA set up will play music during the day and will have karaoke /
live music in the evenings.

Questions:
>> How many speakers will be good enough?
>> What brand / size of speakers?
>> What is the choice for a speaker selector?
>> What amp / mixer / powered mixer?

Anything else to take care?

Thanks for your help, folks!
