  George Question.

I did the Lovell sisters in the small room last night. Wonderful show.
Three teen age girls up front playing mando, fiddle and dobro + vocals.
Young kids that get bluegrass with a taste of newness.

Here is the question for you george since you used to do this a lot.
They had pickups on the dobro and mando. I used a KSM44 and 414 as
accoustic mikes on them also.

What combinations did you use when you were doing it to mike accoustic
instruments?

The mando pickup was a little midrangey for my tastes and i had
to EQ the piss out of it. Dobro was great. The show was great.

MY REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS AUDIO GROUP

Author: Soundhaspriority
Date: May 17, 2008 03:50

Rec.audio.pro has taken a sudden turn for the worse. Bret Ludwig has chosen
to post long and often in favor of subjects abhorrent to many: racism,
Hitler apologies, etc. I on the other hand continue to write cogent
discussions on my booming professional audio career. Mr. Ludwig is a nazi.
I am not. The subjects Mr. Ludwig discusses, and his advocacies, are
related to white supremacism, war, and genocide of unimaginable scale
throughout human history. While I cannot say I know that Mr. Ludwig is a
monster, there is something quite horrible lurking in his heart, perhaps
sharing space with better emotions.

In what I am about to suggest, I considered the pain it might cause Mr.
Ludwig, as opposed to allowing rec.audio.pro to be overtaken by hate
speech and the reaction to it. Furthermore, my suggestion is merely a
suggestion. Rather than tell you this is the only right thing to do, I
respect the decision of each participant in r.a.p. with respect to this
matter as the right choice for that person.

So here it is: Do not respond to Mr. Ludwig on any subject save audio.
Resist the temptation to engage him, because for him, engagement is a kind
of confirmation. Allow him to reign undisturbed over a domain of silence.
Eventually, time will form a capsule over him like a fly in amber.

I was rather hoping they would sound more like the analog BSS stuff... ;-)

The sound company I worked for in the early 1990's had some - they were much
longer front to back than most amps and VERY heavy. Make sure you have
adequate flightcase space or room in your venue!

Can't say how they were sonically but at the time they were very expensive,
and Amcron racks were used in preference. (Size being a major factor)

Hello,

Speaking of amps, I see that Brit Row is selling some of their inventory of
BSS amps. Does anyone know these amps? Having been made by BSS, one would
expect them to sound good, but who knows?

Cheers,
Joe

  Vocal processor recommendation

Author: The BorgMan
Date: May 15, 2008 08:43

Bar band... small places, indoor and out - generally less than 300 people.

We run vocals mixer->600W Crown amp -> Community 2 wat w/ 15", generally
don't run anything other than vocals through the PA.

Looking for recommendations for a vocal processor/eq for our PA rig.
Basically we need a little reverb and some eq - and inexpensive would be
nice. Any recomendations?

Re: case for boom+mic+zeppelin? Robert Morein finally tires of Audio Hobby

Well Mike, you've fortunately come at a time when my sick son Robert Morein
has tired of his latest hobby, "sound engineer". Like everything he's ever
done, because he's too mentally ill to put in the time and energy, he
eventually realises that it requires talent and skill and hard work, none of
which he has.

He was glib enough to get INTO Drexel University - but expected that this
fine institution would give him a degree for "almost knowing enough". They
wouldn't and finally kicked him out. He can't stop masquerading as a
"scientist". He has nothing else to do.

As he told the newspaper when they interviewed him, ""I don't really have a
replacement career," Morein said. "It's a very gnawing thing." Now he's
spent a couple years gnawing on you and your group. It looks to finally be
coming to an end.

Behringer Powerplay 8000 headphone amp - DIRECT IN

Author: Wes Stebbins
Date: May 14, 2008 16:54

Another question I have regarding the Behringer Powerplay 8000 headphone
amp - the user manual states that, unlike the HA-4700, "In the case of this
model, the MAIN signal being fed in is automatically interrupted when the
said input is in use."

Well, the manual is right! But what good does this DIRECT IN do then? I
mean, I thought one use could be to have my bass players feed into the
direct in (via the bass amp's direct/ine out of course) on say - his
channel - so he'd be able to hear himself better and thus keep his stage
volume down some. But, this apparently would work only at the expense of
not being able to hear anything else through his particular channel (i.e.,
vocals, etc.).

Thanks for any constructive input on this topic.
