Back to live sound stuff... How does one un-kink cables that seem to have a
permanent twist?
I have a few mic cables that have somehow acquired a twist that makes them
not lie flat, not wind properly, and in general just be annoying. I'm sure
that most folks here have seen similar cables from time to time :-(
Without going to the extreme of replacing them, how can I rearrange the
innards of these things so that they do what they're supposed to? I don't
have anyplace that I can hang these cables, and it's around -25degC here, so
leaving them out in the yard in the sun isn't going to help.
Any suggestions, folks?

I'm looking to buy a lightweight system.
This would be for a simple DJ setup playing CD's
at weddings, small parties & dances. The typical
venues are medium sized ballrooms like the Oddfellows
or other fraternal type organizations with a stage
at one end & a 250 - 300 person capacity.
The system we're using now is a self powered FBT
Maxx series with 2 tops & 2 15" subs. It does a good job
for us with no complaints.
I'm looking for a system that's a bit lighter & easier
to carry and will put out a quality sound at a moderate
level. I'm looking at the d&b E Series with 2 E3's and
2 E12 subs powered by one D12 amp.
Does anyone have any experience with this brand?
I would welcome any comments pro or con.
Thanks,
Bob

Hi:
I know I've brought this subject up -- and in other groups -- before
but I just can't get over it. I apologize profusely to those who might
be annoyed.
PCI sound stinks. Like kakaa it does.
I just wish the audio communties would revert back to real,
non-emulated SB16 FM synthesis and upgrade from there.
FM emulation [or any audio emulation for that matter] is
sample-playback. Sample playback synth = human kakaa
SB Live stinks like human kakaa. It has no real music synthesis. Its
all kakaa-like emulation.
SB16 PCI has the disadvantages of SB16 ISA [e.g. limitation to 16-bit
resolution] without the advantages [e.g. *real* FM synthesis]. All SB16
PCIs should be burned in oxyacetylene flames.
AFAIK, some PCI cards contain something called "Yamaha FM synth". I
don't really like it though, it is emulation. The Avance sound card has
"Avance FM synth", but its also a real stinker as it isn't a real
synth. The evil PCI loves to inflict pain on other types of slot -- ISA
being the unfortunate victim. PCI cards don't contain real FM synth.

...and if george's solution confuses you, send it to me for testing. It
may take awhile but I will eventually figure it out. 8-)

We bought a Midas back in the late 90's, because of the name. It worked oOK
on about 9 out of ten gigs. But we considered the down rate too high.
We wound up selling it at a loss.
Darned thing was easy to get a good sound out of though.

Pro 40, anyone?
I mixed on one off and on for almost ten years. The only problems we
had were that it would get hot as all hell in direct sunlight and the
fader knobs seemed to like the bottom of the case over the faders.

I don't know....
For me, the worst sound imaginable is Carly Simon's voice.
#2 would be Stevie Nicks, followed by Natalie Merchant.
I'd *rather* hear someone vomit.

Pardon my burning ignorance as I am totally new at this. I just got an
Allen&Heath Mix Wizard 14:4:2 mixing board and don't know how to hook up my
effects unit. The effects is an old Zoom reverb with two 1/4 inputs and two
1/4 outs. This board has 6 aux sends but no returns. I would like to
hear/control reverb on our four vocal channels in the monitors and front
speakers as well. If I try a channel insert will the effect only be on that
one channel? I do plan on getting a new effects unit soon and any thoughts
on a better unit under say $400.00 for this bar band are welcome. Thank
you.

About the audio clip on the site...
Why is it, that vomiting is always done by actors who have never
vomited in their life. The roars... the use of the voice in the first
place while there is vomit passing through.. Impossible.
The only sound you hear is that of your throat opening up. Then your
dinner comes out and the only noise audible on that moment is the
dinner splashing in the bucket. Right after that you swollow several
times and - if needed - sniff your nose. And you spit the left overs
out. This sequence repeats itself as many times as needed. There are
some instances where the stumach is not ready to squeeze the dinner out
and then you only open up your throat.
The element that really finishes this off is the acoustic of a bathroom
where someone hangs with his head over the toilet.
Ok, did I miss something? ;)
