I am considering buying a 2003 Honda Rubicon TRX500FA. Owner says that it
will not go forward or backward. There are 2000 miles on it. Any ideas what
could cause this?

It is an automatic, it might be the CVT drive belt. Inexpensive fix.

No Honda has a belt they are all gear transmissions.check the clutches they
might have to adjusted small screw on the side of cover with lock nut turn
in until you feel resistance then back of 1/8 turn just a starting point.

Honda don't have belts! That's why they rule in water. :)

Rubicon has a gear tranny... it may be hosed. I'd call a local honda
dealer and ask their service department if it sounds really bad, or a
simple fix.

not cvt shift all of them but Rincon auto
