But there is a "Christian" understanding of God ... and that's what
people mean by that term. It's a reasonable usage, IMHO. It would be
in contrast to the Muslim God or Jewish God.

Ditto. The term means "the Christian understanding of creationism"
ANYWAY, dealing with the question. I think it is a huge problem for
Christians who want to adhere strictly to the scientific model which
believes that the world is predictable, once studied sufficiently.
Yet, Christianity believes that God can unpredictable intervene in the
world.
I, myself, have done a lot of formal religious studies but I also have
a Bachelor of Science from a secular institution... so I've spend a
lifetime wresting with this issue.
