Why do people believe in the fiction of God?

Yes, so we are supposed to believe in anything so long as that
anything is outside of our senses or conceptualized thinking - it
could be space aliens, life giving plasma or god. Only then do talking
snakes and donkeys, god ordering pregnant women ripped up, fish eating
a man and spitting him up days later, a 6000 yr old earth and other
such biblical things become palatable.... no wait, no even then. If
you want to make the case that there is something beyond our senses,
infinite and beyond our conceptual thinking - then fine. But it is
just superstition or wishful thinking... if we are to make anything of
our world, it is what we can reason.

I guess that depends on you; because personally I believe what I
consider to be the ONLY GOD is the great "I am that I am also known as
Jehovah" expounded upon in the Christian bible. Actually it is the same God
spoken of in the Muslim Koran except they call him Ala. The Muslim bible
also speaks of Jesus I guess the difference between the Muslim and Christian
faith is that Christians track their lineage back to Isaac and Muslims track
theirs back to Ishmael. Then there are various other religions which all
