[note crosspost, I will contact my internet provider after the
holidays, looks like they messed up the configuration for aam]
Would anybody be interested in using a usenet news reader
specialized for usenet posts about astrology ?
Let me be more specific about what I have in mind.
At very least, it would recognize and translate this:
- "Aries" in text => little image with glyph for Aries
(plus same for all other star signs)
- "Mars" => little image with glyph for Mars
(plus same for all other major objects)
- "trine" => little image with glyph for trine aspect
(plus same for all other major aspects)
- "this is *important*" => important in bold type
- "so called _gremlins_" => gremlins in italic type
- " http://www.mysite.com/chart.gif" => displays chart image inline
- " http://www.mysite.com/sig.gif" => displays signature image inline
Additional features might include:
- possibility to create a chart on the fly from indicated
chart data, maybe something along this:

Friend,
I am currently researching the impact of Asteroids on the periods of
luck in human beings. Both the work of the late Joyce Wehrman and
Lois Rodden have written on this subject, and well as many others. I
have taken their works and a collection(currently) of 59 asteroids
relating to the impact that a major unexpected windfall might have on
a human being.
While a lottery is one way this can be indicated, it is not the only
one. What is important is that the thing that happens is "life
changing" for the person involved.
I am looking for birthdata and time/place/date data on either the
purchase of a ticket or the time when the event befell them. I do not
want names.
If you can help, I thank you.
Zarathu

Hi, I'm going to assume we know that in astrological terms, Venus
means cash and I'm going to also assume that we know there is a
recession going on, or the beginning of a recession however you want
to look at it, but all we know is that our money doesn't go far
nowadays (and we feel cheated by bankers and oil companies etc) when I
drew up a chart for yesterday (20th Sept 08) I noticed that there was
a stellium in venus ruled Libra, including the dollar sign planet
Venus.
It might seem contradictory that there's money in the heavens when
there's very little actually in our pockets BUT, the Government has
recently taken drastic action to stabilise the economy by injecting
billions into it (also there is 100 million for grabs in the European
lottery-which is an absurd amount)
With money being redistributed and cash flow loosening now it's no
suprise that the stellium of Libra is in house 10 of Government, Libra-
as we know-is a fair sign, sometimes it can be cranky if the scales
dip too far one way but basically it's pretty reasonable and impartial
with it's solutions hence the bail out.

Hi all
I am a new member to this group. I found this group while searching
the math of astrology.
Basically my curiosity to know 'how astrology works' took me here. I
am trying to calculate a simple birth chart so that I can understand
what happens in the background.
I've been able to successfully calculate the MidHeaven(MC) but am
totally clueless to the Ascendant calculations.
I'm interested in calculating the birth chart for a person born
midnight GMT, 6 December 1970. So the following details are obtained -
Local Sidereal Time - 4 hours 57 min
RAMC = 74.25
Inclination = 23.44
Latitude at GMT = 51.5
MC = 74.68 (Hence Gemini)
how to calculate Ascendant?
I tried this formula (read this in the great article An Astrological
House Formulary by Michael P. Munkasey and the same formula has been
used in Astrolog Software)

I've created a fictional birthchart for the main character in the
novel I am writing. I've set her birthday for 23rd May which makes her
a Gemini with a Sagittarian Moon. She murders a love rival in the
story
Her birth chart is like this:
Sun Gemini House 6
Moon Sag H12
Mercury Gemini H6
Venus Cancer H7
Mars capricorn H1
Jupiter Pisces H3
Saturn Sag H12 (conjunct Moon)
Neptune Capricorn H1
Pluto Scorpio H10
Chiron Aries H4
I've thought about these placements and come up with a few of my own
suggestions:

A person born with Saturn on the Ascendant, as seen from Earth, really
is not. The time it takes for light to travel from Saturn to Earth is
so long that when Saturn can be seen rising here, it is already "in
reality" well past the Ascendant.
So it seems that the speed of light must matter to astrology.
Appearances must matter. It is also possible that this is an argument
against the so-called Moderns; Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. However,
both Uranus and Neptune CAN be seen from Earth, given auspicious
circumstances, to further complicate things. Should they only be
counted sometimes then? And when is "sometimes"?
Should we then start to look at the influence of a fixed star, whose
light may have gone out years ago, but positioned spot on the
Ascendant, we end up entangled in all sorts of paradoxes. Can
something that does not even exist any more have an influence upon
someone?
Of course, astrology is geocentric and concerned with what the
universe is FROM HERE. Appearances matter more than abstract fact, are
more true?

Planetary positions may have a strong influence on people’s health,
suggests the initial findings of a University Grants Commission (UGC)
project.
The five-year study, nearing completion, is being conducted by the
Delhi-based Lal Bahadur Shastri Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha’s
department of medical astrology.
The department has been recording the birth details of patients and
their medical history from Delhi hospitals, and has a databank of over
1,000 horoscopes. In nearly 75 per cent cases, a strong co-relation is
found between the prediction of occurrence of a disease at a specific
time and its occurrence,” Dr Prem Kumar Sharma, head of the medical
astrology department, told HT.
