  Interested in sustainable farming?

Author: Sustainable Farmer
Date: Jul 14, 2008 08:38

http://www.sustainablefarmer.com/ - This link takes you to my new
online multimedia publication Sustainable Farmer. It is aimed at
providing people who are involved in sustainable agriculture – or who
dream of doing so – the information they need to succeed.

As you will see, the publication features video of sustainable farmers
like the Titus family, whose daughter Rebecca has recruited 150 new
CSA (Community-Supported Agriculture) customers. There is also
practical information what you need to know to begin raising animals,
as well as marketing advice on building a great farm Web site.

I also want to invite you to sign up for the RSS feed on my blog. Many
entries involve what I am learning as we put in our new hoophouse.
However, there are also postings about policy issues that affect
sustainable ag.

And please also join our forum. We want this to become a place where
sustainable farmers can share information, ideas and advice.

Last but not least, please send us your story ideas, your videos, your
pictures to share. Any bloggers out there? Send us your idea for a
blog.

Time to reel in corn for ethanol use for biofuels in the US : Record corn prices mean more expensive meat, dairy

Author: sauteedshrimp

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080622/ap_on_bi_ge/midwest_flooding_food_prices

the feed is needed for food products. Sugar can be used for ethanol
production too, the
ethanol is more efficient than that from corn. Currently, the
domestic US market
receives subsidies for their production, and, as a result the import
of sugar into
the US is severly limited. This needs to change - even if it means
that all sugar
imported into the united states is specifically to be used for
biofuels, and biofuels only.

  extension cord powered tractor

Author: gaby de wilde
Date: May 3, 2008 19:10

hey, I could use some help here.

I'm trying to figure out a good way to transport power over a few km
using extension cords (to put it bluntly)

The image is not very imaginative at all.

http://gabydewilde.googlepages.com/grid-powered-tractor.jpg

A tractor drives up and down a field, it can thus roll out - on it's
way to the end and roll up - the extension cord farming it's way back.

An electric motor is cheap, the problems with the invention are
obvious however, the power drop becomes significant when the cord is
more then 100 meters. The project demands critical analysis of cables
in contrast with power demand, flexibility, price, the different
Country grid voltages and the size of their average field.

The system cant run without batteries entirely because an EV can draw
surges way beyond that what the grid can supply. A flywheel can cut
off the biggest peek. The more consistent high demands can be covered
by an additional direct current motor.
