I went for a bike ride with around 50,000 of my friends.
It was billed as a chance to ride the new East Link toll road before
it's opened to traffic. 37Km of the latest high-tech road. 32.5km was
opened for the ride. The options were a 65km race (current race licence
required), a 65km 'Challenge' ride and a couple of family fun rides -
30km and 10km I think. I entered for the 65km challenge thinking that
it might be fun to ride around a new bit of road with a perfect
surface and no cars. A few days ago I discovered that 8,000 people had
entered for the 65km ride and 22,000 had entered in total. Yikes -
have to get there early. Parking opens at 07:00hrs.
Up at 5:30. Feed the cats. Fried egg and bacon sandwich for breakfast.
Two thermals (it's winter) + winter road jersey donned. Water bottles
filled. Car loaded. Time to go. Get there at 06:50 and people are
streaming in. Get directed to a car park, don the skull cap, leg
warmers, wind stopper, etc and it's time to ride to the start. There's
enough light to see where we're going.

Indeed, what fun for you...and looks like you have been a faithful rider
since you took it up for health reasons those many years ago.
Now I have to go lie down...I'm tired from just reading about it....

A word that I'm frequently reminded of while riding :-)

Ah ha! I knew I remembered something about calli in Greek meaning pretty.
Now I'm wondering what I look like from behind while riding a
horse...there's a lot more jiggling...
