zol here. seens the "nice" folks at time warner cable have decided to
discontinue their newsgroup service with no notice. they do have some
reccomendations for "third party providers" for newsgroups that will
cost me extra every month. as i feel that i am already paying for
newsgroup service, i refuse to pony up another $20 for a service i
already feel i pay for.

the message that appeared on the newsgroups said they discontinued it
due to a lack of useage. i called the area office and after going
through 4 people i finally got someone to admit that they were
stopping newsgroups due to "some of the content on some of the
newsgroups". when i suggested to this person that they could filter
out all the porn and still keep the good newsgroups, he transferred me
to a manager.

the manager is useless. i asked for a rebate on my service, i was
told that newsgroup service was a free add-on. when i mentioned the
article i read that said the attorney general of new york state was
pressuring verizon and time warner to drop newsgroup services due to
the porn, he stammered and had no answer for me.

What, *aero* notice??

Don't you have a contract with them that lists contracted services, or
is newsgroup access a "free" extra?

BTW I can thoroughly recommend the german server; 10 euros a year and
it's damn good. I have a binary account with giganews, for downloads,
but I still don't mind forking over 10 euros a year to the
news.individual.de guys, as the service is pretty spiffy for non-binary
newsgroup access [1]

Sorry, completely missed the bit where you'd mentioned it was :)

Long day for me today.

Absolutely. I was somewhat saddened too ... he was the old man I want
to become, if by some miracle I live that long ... cantankerous,
stubborn and funny :)

Well worth 10 euros of anyone's money.

Also, and I stand to be corrected, these days the germans seem better
than the brits at saying "ve are not joining in vis dis schtupid tidal
wave of hysteria" ... which is odd, when you think about it :)

Do that. I'd be interested to follow the chain of events.

Spineless bastards.
