If you are taking a baking dish out of a 200C oven and are using a
pair of oven mitts, it's a good idea to make sure that there aren't
any holes in the ends of the oven mitts where your finger tips can
poke out.
Take it from me, this is a good idea.

*wince*

I've done it myself on several occasions ... these days I use some
really, *really* good oven gloves. Not expensive per se, just very
durable ... and when they start to get ratty, they get binned.

I use two folded up kitchen towels, myself. It's what we did when I were a
chef. They get grubby, you wash 'em, and Bob's your mother's brother.

Oh god no - I'd burn myself to ribbons if I went back to that method.
I'm almost Snowy-esque when it comes to handling hot dishes from the
oven.
