Just before he retired about 25 years ago, my MiL's partner was
captain of a brand new coal fired ship. It used coal dust in the
furnaces. The ship was a 75,000 tonne bauxite carrier. That's a bit
bigger than Molesworth's yacht. The coal dust was meant to be much
more efficient than oil/diesel.
