My first scoot was an LD-150.. have you seen the PRICE of an aged Lammie?
So, after Toms (the mechanic) news and the evidence of own eyes.. I
started looking for a replacement motor.
A Craigslist guy in Algiers had sold the 'Sprint for repair' this
morning: so that was a blowout. The motor Tom saw on
scoot.net (a Sprint
Veloce!) for $600 was sold.. so I trawled thro' every craigslist in the
south (as far north as Memphis) only finding one motor in El Paso...
Hmmm.. I was considering the 1200 mile drive when the phone went. It was
the guy in Algiers - Jerome - who said that he had a new motor in his
shed... and did I want to have a look at it?
I braved the rush-hour drive over the CCC and arrived at his house. His
gargae is a paen of praise to all things Italian (I guess he may even
have some italian blood?) LOL... He has four Vespas plus a Stella..
And he dragged out this motor..(drool)... unmarked, with a (chrome air
box cover) saying it's a 3 port motor (YES!) for 10" wheels (YES!!) and
as far as he knows it hasn't been used (YES!!!) and that he'll sell it
for $400.00 (YES!!!!) but ONLY if it works and fits my scoot (YES!!!!!),
so he loaded it in a black bag and put it in the back of my car. I gave
him a cheque, even tho he didn't want it yet, and we agreed that he'll
pay it in if I say all is well...
Oh, and he threw in a racing exhaust..
I am blessed!
A very happy..
