It's new swimsuit buying time and my friend is trying to get me to go on a
weird diet with her
-- 21 days without animal products, caffeine, sugar,
gluten and alcohol!

I seriously doubt if it's possible. That's five of the major food
groups gone at a stroke.

I've been on a whey protein powder regimen with very little carbs and
fats. It's chocolate-flavored and mixes with milk or water.

Lost twenty-five pounds in a little over two months.

Yes, you can!

Weight Management

Studies show that achieving and maintaining a healthy weight can add
years to your life and help prevent weight related complications,
including diabetes, cancer, and heart disease. Diet plays a key role
in any weight management program and adding whey protein often helps
make a positive difference.

Here are some of the reasons why:

The body requires more energy to digest protein than other foods
(thermic effect) and as a result you burn more calories after a
protein meal.

Whey protein isolate is pure protein with little to no fat or
carbohydrates. It is a perfect complement to any low carbohydrate or
low glycemic index diet plan.

There's only so much lentil casserole a body can endure.

Of course it's possible. A healthy person can go for 21 days on just
water, although it'll be damned uncomfortable and your doctor would,
quite rightly, not recommend it. You'll metabolise whatever fat you're
carrying, and then start on your muscles. That process will make you
smell "interesting" and may cause diabetes. You will be irritable and
tired. Your IQ will fall. You may catch a nasty disease or two as your
immune system is weakened. You may become (temporarily) infertile and
if pregnant may miscarry. It may take over a year for the psychological
effects of starvation to go away.

You will *certainly* be absolute hell to be around!

What fun dieting is!

She invited me for lunch and served mashed bean/veg patties fried crisp in
olive oil, w lime/vegan-mayo sauce. Very good, but I pointed out that they
weren't low calorie...that we could do better w tossed green salads with
chicken slices.

All manner of fruits, veggies, nuts, tofu stirfrys...she has a book
that's all the rage with skinny movie stars. I pointed out that it's a
detox, or cleansing, diet...not a weight loss diet. She's trying it, I
begged off. This town is not ready for my caffeine withdrawal headache.
One of her brekkies is steel-cut oatmeal with fresh blueberries,
strawberries, chopped walnuts...
